Campus programs hope to increase Native American student population and retainment at UM. Sojin Josephson and Ryan Groh explore different campus programs, including celebrations at Native American Heritage Day that shows community members and potential students the importance of understanding Native American traditions.
Decorated Montana High School Runner To Lead Griz Cross Country
Makena Morley is one of the most dominant runners in Montana high school history. She won three state championships at Big Fork High and is the all-class state record holder in cross country. She decided on The University of Montana after offers poured in from running powerhouses like Stanford and Northern Arizona. Produced by Sean Robb, Photography by Peter Riley. Construction on Gilkey Center Nearing Completion
The University of Montana’s newest building, the Gilkey Center for Executive Education, is set to be completed in January of next year. Leadership, entrepreneurship and executive education will highlight some of the classes in the new space. UM Business School dean Larry Gianchetta says the building will further the business school’s efforts in helping businesses navigate an evolving industry.
UM Ally Week Aims for Awareness
Ally Week is a program that aims to bring awareness to the issues that face the LGBT community. Students can sign up for training sessions to become advocates. University Center Associate Director Adrianne Donald says that seeing the amount of support increase year after year gives her a great feeling.
Sunday Sweepers Clean up Missoula Community
One University of Montana program shows their Griz pride by cleaning up the mess made in nearby neighborhoods during home football games. UM News reporter Dominique Giusti and photojournalist Andy Anderson learned more.

This week on UM News, a UM student shares her story on surviving a stroke, exchange students are welcomed into the community, and a class on campus teaches bike maintenance. This show is anchored by Sean Robb and Sojin Josephson, and produced by Dominique Giusti.
UM Bike Maintenance Class
UM is offering a bike maintenance class for anyone of the community to take. Classes are held at the outdoor student recreation center on campus. Alan Bowman teaches some of these classes and he thinks it’s a great way to keep your wallet a little more fuller. For info on future classes people can contact the UM outdoor program.
