“Rate My Landlord” website gets mixed reviews from students, landlords

Rate My LandlordThe ASUM Off-Campus Renter Center launched its new “Rate My Landlord” website late last spring.  So far, the site is largely unknown to students and property managers, but it is already causing some controversy.  Reporter Kyle Schmauch and photographer Don Fisher talked to student renter Amanda Bryant, Real Estate Management Group Operations Manager Brittni Hertz, and Renter Center Director Katherine Brady.  Bryant reported a bad private landlord on the site after breaking her lease and scrambling to find housing at the start of the school year.  Hertz says the site has been mostly negative toward property managers, but says it could be beneficial for all parties if the public could see it and if it was better regulated.  Brady says the site is just trying to inform students who are at a disadvantage with the rental market in Missoula.

Grizzlies Help Lacrosse Grow

UM Rodeo Team Saddles Up for the Cowboy Ball

Rodeo blog picThe University of Montana Rodeo Team gears up for its 22nd annual Cowboy Ball scholarship fundraiser after finishing its 50th fall season.  Reporter Kyle Schmauch talked to Duston Stephens, JoLee Pemberton, and head coach Kory Mytty about the benefits of the money generated from the event.  Stephens is a Missoula College senior who competes in steer wrestling, calf roping, and team roping with his horse Sister.  Pemberton is a UM freshman who competes in barrel racing and team roping with her horse Gunner.

Mytty and his wife own and manage the Lolo Peak Arena, where the Cowboy Ball will take place on October 12.

Galloping Griz Food Truck conquers hunger

A new trend in the food industry has Missoulians of all ages defeating late night hunger pangs. UM News reporter Dustin Askim hung around the truck in the Lommasson Center parking lot to see what’s cooking with Dining Services’ latest attraction at night. You can also spot the truck on the Missoula College west campus in the morning and afternoon for breakfast or lunch.

UM Students Take Fall Semester Off To Fight Wildfires

Carter Mark decided to take the fall semester of his senior year off from school to keep fighting wildfires and pay for classes.  University of Montana advisers tell students to carefully consider their credit load and financial situation before taking time off.
