UM VETS Office is Helping Student Veteran Education
UM has established the Veteran’s Education and Transition Services Office to assist veterans and their family members in achieving academic success. Their goals is to provide a positive environment for veterans and family members. Student veterans have access to their mini-kitchen to make quick meals and a lounge area to watch television and relax while waiting for their next class. They also provide a computer lab with printing, scanning, and faxing capabilities and a quiet study lounge for individuals or groups. UM News photographer, Nick Chrestenson, visited the office to get the story.
Missoula Food Banks Hosts UM Student and Parent Volunteers
The Missoula Food Bank is preparing for the holiday season when demand for help increases. UM student and parent volunteers helped to fight hunger. Photographer Nick Chrestenson witnessed the volunteers bag pasta, potatoes, and flour. Food bank employees say that these volunteer events bring the community together for a great cause.
DUI’s Are Down Thanks To The UM Gold Line Bus
The bus offers service downtown on the weekends. UM student, Jeren Robinson, who rides the bus frequently says he enjoys the stress relief it provides. The Gold Line Bus is available to all students and runs from seven to midnight Monday through Wednesday and seven to two a.m. Thursday through Saturday. UM Dining’s Iron Griz Restaurant
UM Dining’s Iron Griz restaurant opened almost eight months ago and it isn’t quite what they thought it would be. Photographer Nick Chrestenson talked with UM Dining Director, Byron Drake. Drake says the restaurant is adapting in an effort to please their local customers. The Iron Griz is in the process of improving their wine selection, hosting trivia nights, and possibly even having karaoke in the near future. They hope that their state of the art beer tap will also help get more people through the doors.
UM Bike Maintenance Class
UM is offering a bike maintenance class for anyone of the community to take. Classes are held at the outdoor student recreation center on campus. Alan Bowman teaches some of these classes and he thinks it’s a great way to keep your wallet a little more fuller. For info on future classes people can contact the UM outdoor program.
