UM News Maroon for November 5, 2015
Sarah Yovetich and Dominique Giusti anchor this week’s episode of UM News. One UM class called “Can Giving Change the World?” tries to decide which charity grant money should go to. The new smart chip technology designed to stop fraudulent use of credit and debit cards will be missing from UM Griz cards. And an exceptionally large clock was reset on campus. Dean Chrestenson, Detective with the Missoula Police Department, spoke on behalf of law enforcement when it comes to combating the issues involving prescription drugs. He spoke about law enforcement collaborating with the community to bring awareness to the misuse and abuse of prescription drugs.
Missoula Food Banks Hosts UM Student and Parent Volunteers
The Missoula Food Bank is preparing for the holiday season when demand for help increases. UM student and parent volunteers helped to fight hunger. Photographer Nick Chrestenson witnessed the volunteers bag pasta, potatoes, and flour. Food bank employees say that these volunteer events bring the community together for a great cause.
GrizWalk Helps Keep Students Safe At Night With A Golf Cart
GrizWalk is seeing an increase in interest. The program aims to give students comfort and safety around campus late at night with a golf cart. UM News reporter Sean Robb and Photographer Andy Anderson took a ride with GrizWalk to see their work first-hand.
Clyde Coffee: From the Business School to the Hip Strip
A business school graduate turns her class assignment into a reality by combining her love of coffee and accounting skills. Clyde Coffee just opened on Missoula’s hip strip and joins Market on Front and Five on Black as another UM School of Business startup. Professor Produces Sweeney Todd for Missoula Community Theatre
Professor David Cody leads an orchestra of university students and community members in the musical Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street at the Missoula Community Theatre this fall.Cody hope to make audiences laugh, cry and feel a bit of a thrill, while challenging their musical skills. Photographer Carrie Miller attended the final dress rehearsal before the show to get the story.
First Annual STEMFest Highlights Career Opportunities for High Schoolers
High school students across Montana are getting the opportunity to connect virtually with professors and community leaders in science, technology, engineering and mathematics, also known as STEM.
