Adopt-a-Veteran Program
You can assist veterans in need this holiday season through the annual Adopt-a-Veteran Program. Coordinated by the UM Office for Civic Engagement, this project gives UM groups and individuals a chance to provides gifts and necessities for veterans in the community. Michael Waller was a part of the program last year, and says generosity was the best gift he received.
Griz Cards A Liability For Business Owners
The new smart chip technology designed to stop credit and debit card fraud is missing from UM’s Griz Cards. Businesses had an October first deadline to move to the new system or else become liable for any fraud. UMoney, that students upload to their Griz Cards, presents a risk to local merchants. Missoula College Construction To Benefit Teachers And Students In Future
A new building under construction aims to provide relief to Missoula College students and teachers who currently work in small outdated facilities. UM News reporter Sean Robb and Photographer Joe Hodgson found out how the new campus will benefit the school.
The Flagship Program Celebrates 20 Years
The Flagship Program celebrated twenty years of success with live music and free ice cream at Big Dipper Ice Cream in Missoula. The independent non-profit group offers free after school activities at eight area schools. The Flagship Program provides affordable childcare for families and a safe environment for continued learning. Board Member Peter Knox comments on where he hopes to see Flagship go in the next twenty years.

KBGA Radio DJ Training at the University of Montana
Community members and students took a test… on a Saturday!
DJ’s in training took to the books for a chance to be the next Casey Kasem or Ryan Seacrest. Staff from the University of Montana college radio station KBGA held their first training session of the semester last weekend. Participants learned about regulations and policy. Afterwards they were taken on a tour and tested on the material. Productions Engineer and DJ Matt Freeman was excited for the large turnout. Participants will partner with veteran DJ’s and continue to train over the next few weeks.
University Police Help Keep Off-Campus Students Safe
After a recent explosion at University Villages housing, UM News reporter Mahkia Clark looked into what the University Police do to keep students living in those apartments safe and what to do in the case of an off-campus emergency.
UM Students Promote Latino Culture During Latin Heritage Month
The University of Montana promoted Hispanic culture as part of it’s celebration of Latin Heritage Month. UM News reporter Mahkia Clark has more on what some UM students and diversity advocates are doing to help increase awareness of the Latino population at UM.
Study Abroad Benefits Students, University
More University of Montana students are studying abroad than ever before, despite the drop in enrollment. Just over 300 students studied in other countries last year. University President Royce Engstrom set a goal to raise that number to 550 students by 2020. Reporter Kyle Schmauch found out that studying abroad benefits both students and the University itself.
