Photo Essay: Skeleton Skedaddle
The Skeleton Skedaddle is an evening filled with fun, food, and Halloween running. A 5k cross-country track at the University Golf Course takes runners through autumn leaves in the Fall twilight. Costume contests and top finisher prizes accompany a post-race meal of soup and cornbread with apple cider. All proceeds benefit the UM Physical Therapy Student Association. “Run for your bones!”

The Missoula Food Bank Reaches Out to Community After Increase in Demand
The Missoula Food Bank is relying on food donations and the entire Missoula community due to an increase in demand over the past two years. UM has extended a helping hand through class fundraisers, student volunteers and food drives like Can the Bobcats. Faith-Based Groups Continue to Grow in Missoula
Missoula and the University of Montana are seeing an increase of faith-based groups. Fields of Faith for athletes stopped in Missoula for the first time this month and student groups are peaking on campus. UM News Reporter Aunica Koch has the story.

Missoula Focuses on Carbon Emitted from Transportation
A recent report from Climate Smart Missoula, says transportation emits the largest portion of carbon for Missoula. The community is focusing on this 37% for the month of October. UM has reduced its emission of fossil fuels by purchasing two electric buses over the past two years. The University continues to work towards sustainability through addressing transportation along with reducing its energy consumption and improving its recycling program. UM Reporter Mederios Whitworth-Babb checks out progress.

This week on UM News Matt Skillman and Meghan Bourassa will explore how UM and Missoula Parks and Recreation are trying to prevent fires in the upcoming years. We will dig into how the community is banding together to restore Jeanette Rankin Park and later we will explore how the increase of language immersion programs in grade schools could impact future classes at The University.
Elementary Spanish Immersion
Paxson elementary just started its fourth year of language immersion classes. With so many students becoming fluent in Spanish, the program has the University of Montana reconsidering its own language classes. Aunica Koch has the story.
Community members give neighborhood park extra love
Reporter Meri DeMarois finds out how Jeanette Rankin Park is being refurbished thanks to the efforts of the University District Neighborhood teaming up with Missoula Parks and Recreation, the Jeanette Rankin Peace Center, and Kappa Sigma Fraternity. The groups are participating in volunteer gardenings to plant native plants in the park.
American Indian Heritage Week 2017
American Indian Heritage Week brings to light the variety of cultures spanning the University of Montana campus. This year, 2017, marks 50 years of community involvement between a variety of knowledge and experiences. Themes include art and humanities, health and wellness, social justice and ecological knowledge. Reporter Aunica Koch fills us in on the details.
