UM’s Sculpture Program Utilizes Welding
Some University of Montana artists are practicing an increasingly valuable skill. Sculpture students learn the basics of welding working on a variety of projects. Reporter Dustin Askim and Photographer Max Barnum spent an evening in the art annex to find out more.
The Vagina Monologues
The University of Montana’s Women’s Resource Center is gearing up for their annual Vagina Monologues play. The monologues are apart of a global effort to stop violence against women. The play happens every year on Valentines Day.

Students Sell Their Plasma
Students are finding new ways to make a little extra cash. One way that is becoming more popular is the selling of plasma. Since plasma cannot be produced synthetically, donors are compensated for their donations. Plasma is used to help treat hemophilia, immune deficiency disorders and other diseases. UM News reporter Ashley Mackey and photographer Mike Huberman take a closer look.
The Girls Way
The Girls Way is a local Missoula non-profit that offers unique opportunities to young girls after school, through exercise and movement classes as well as self esteem building workshops. UM News reporter Nicole Wren and photographer Fiona Murphey tagged along on their latest adventure into the Hunger Games. Griz-Cat Blood Drive Challenge Highlights Importance of Giving Blood
UM and MSU will battle for the 113th time this weekend, but the storied rivalry extends beyond the football field. Both communities took part in the 8th annual Griz-Cat Blood Drive Challenge last week. The Red Cross says that donation numbers drop every holiday season, while Montana patients require an average of 700 pints of donated blood each week. UM News Reporter Evan Rau found out why blood drives are so crucial in keeping up with a constant state-wide demand.
Study Abroad Benefits Students, University
More University of Montana students are studying abroad than ever before, despite the drop in enrollment. Just over 300 students studied in other countries last year. University President Royce Engstrom set a goal to raise that number to 550 students by 2020. Reporter Kyle Schmauch found out that studying abroad benefits both students and the University itself.
Missoula’s Lambda Alliance Gives Us Something to be Thankful For
The University of Montana’s Lambda Alliance hosts the third annual Queergiving at the Carousel for Missoula in Caras Park on Thanksgiving Day. UM News reporter Eric Clements spent the afternoon with members of the Lambda Alliance as they prepared for the event. Carousel rides begin at 4:00 Thursday afternoon, and dinner will be served at 5:30.
Griz Personal Safety
The University of Montana issued a campus-wide alert Tuesday November 19, warning students of an assault near campus. Grizzly Personal Safety, or GPS, offers safe rides home from campus after dark. UM News reporter Anna Cole and photographer Conor Ballantyne caught a ride with GPS to find out if more people use the service after alerts are issued on campus
